If you are familiar with these monthly posts inspired by the Insecure Writers Support Group, then you're ready for my response to the June 3 challenge question: Do most of my story ideas come from one place (the news, dreams, etc.), or do they hit from all over the place.
I'd love to have an inspirational answer for you, but these last two months, I've been more focused on taking care of my husband whose recovering slowly from severe back pain. His walking is improving. He can now walk for up to 5 minutes several times a day. Hooray! And the pain has dropped to manageable levels. So I'm happy. Actually, very happy.
But that doesn't mean I've been writing. Usually, I write every day, but just now I'm skipping a day or two or three and, hopefully, will get back on track.
So, where do my story ideas come from? Mostly travel. Places we've been that I want to revisit with a story (example, Honeymoon in Egypt, the current wip). History that appeals to me. Jumping back in time to explore The Seventh Tapestry (London/Paris). I'm not writing poetry or short stories, just novels that take me about 3 years to finish.
And about IWSG, I truly am just hanging in there. You'll notice I'm down around 74 on the current list, even though I've been posting for IWSG over ten years! That's because real life intervenes and I don't always post every month or I post a few days too late. Here's an IWSG post from 2016 about writing with focus, if you want to have a look.
Meanwhile, thank you to those IWSG writers who have become online friends! And, thank you to this month's hosts: Drop by, see what they're up to, and leave a comment, if you wish! Victoria Marie Lees, Sarah Foster, Natalie Aguirre, and C. Lee McKenzie!

Yes, traveling can certainly lead to many stories.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your husband's back pain. I hope he's improving and will get back to no pain at all soon.
Thank you, Olga, for your kind thoughts. I'm hoping the same!
DeleteHi, Beth! Your poor husband. Back pain is miserable. It's good to hear that he is making walking progress. Sometimes life gets in the way of writing. We all do what we can! All the best to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Fundy Blue. Your encouraging note is heartwarming.
DeleteThat's cool you write about places you've been. A writer friend of mine is querying a book about ancient Egypt. (She's an egyptologist... may have that wrong... Anyway, she was just there again and has full access to places, more than tourists, because she has that science pass thingy from the government.)
ReplyDeleteKeep writing!
We didn't have behind the scenes access like that, but one of our guides took us underneath a pyramid, and that was unforgettable. Thank you for visiting and commenting!
DeleteYou're doing what's most important now--taking care of your husband. I hope he continues to recover from his back pain.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natalie. Your comments feel like a virtual hug. Very much appreciated.
DeleteI'm glad to hear your husband is getting up and about. Life imposes its own priorities and we must go along, sometimes.
ReplyDeleteSometimes real life is more important and it sounds like you have your priorities in order. Hope your husband's back pain resolves - having put my back out yesterday, I sympathize!
ReplyDeleteI hope your husband continues to improve and that you find more time for writing soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad your husband is doing better. Sorry you had to start again at the bottom of the list but it is a very short list now.
ReplyDeleteI'm praying for your husband, Beth. And for you. Continued strength for both of you.
ReplyDeleteMy story ideas come from traveling, too. We camped as a family of seven for over twenty years. Lots of inspiration.
Traveling is a great way to get ideas!
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I realized I'd gotten dropped off the list for the same reason. I understand why they don't want folks to be on if they aren't posting regularly, but ah well. I signed back up and posted June's and scheduled July's! So, progress!
